Hands-on education at the Institute

The ROTC programs at VMI recently unveiled three new state-of-the-art flight simulators in Kilbourne Hall. The simulators utilize virtual reality headsets as well as tactile controls to create an immersive flying experience. A joint ROTC asset, cadets interested in aviation will be able to train on a variety of aircraft, including an Air Force T-6 Texan II trainer, a Naval T-6 Texan II trainer, and a helicopter simulator.

Institute leadership continues to communicate important information for cadets, their families, faculty & staff, and the VMI community at-large:

  • Information and a schedule for Ring Figure events are now available. You can find past event photo albums and livestreams on Flickr and YouTube respectively.
  • Virginia Military Institute has retained its high placing among the nation’s best colleges, according to 2022 college rankings released this fall by nationwide publications.
  • To best protect cadets, faculty, staff, alumni, and visitors, Virginia Military Institute requires cadets to get a COVID-19 vaccine. Recent communications from Maj. Gen. Wins '85, VMI's superintendent, are available for cadets and faculty/staff. More information regarding protocols, procedures, policies, and testing are available in the COVID-19 Info Portal.
  • The October 2021 edition of the Institute Report is now available for viewing and download.
  • As our cadet athletes continue their fall seasons, be sure to visit https://vmikeydets.com/ for all the latest news, schedules, and ticket information for VMI Athletics. You can also show your support by gearing up with merchandise from the VMI Bookstore. Let's Go Keydets!
  • Significant construction projects continue through the 2021-2022 academic year and may impact traffic and parking on the post of Virginia Military Institute as well as downtown Lexington.

Geared Up for VMI Sports!

The Virginia Military Institute in partnership with our VMI Bookstore partner, Follett, launched our new online store at LetsGoKeydets.com.

LetsGoKeydets.com is the one stop shop for VMI fans, family, and alumni to get their official VMI licensed merchandise including tees, sweatshirts, hats, bags, mugs, and other VMI branded merchandise. Fans of the Keydets will be able to order team specific tees and sweatshirts to show their support for their favorite Keydet athletic teams on game day and every day. LetsGoKeydets.com will feature quality items at affordable prices to include Under Armor apparel items, the official uniform provider for the VMI Keydet Athletic Teams. Only Living Operation Iraqi Freedom Medal of Honor Recipient to Speak at VMI

Retired Army Staff Sergeant David Bellavia will give an inspirational talk on service above self on Tuesday, Nov. 2 at 2:30 p.m. in Gillis Theater in Marshall Hall. His talk will be open to the public. Bellavia is VMI’s 2021 H. B. Johnson Jr. ’26 Distinguished Lecture Series speaker.

2021-22 New and Promoted Faculty

Brig. Gen. Robert “Bob” Moreschi, deputy superintendent for academics and dean of the faculty, has announced the promotion and granting of tenure to several faculty members.
